Norwegian Seasons

A visual journey through the annual cycle as experienced in Norway, where winter's presence dominates the landscape and the rhythm of life.
Created through a hybrid process in Krita, combining manual sketching with generative fill at low denoise strength. The flowing branch structure connects all four seasons into a continuous narrative, while the composition's proportions reflect the true temporal weight of each season—winter sprawling across the canvas as it does across the Norwegian calendar.
The piece captures not just seasonal changes in nature, but the cultural response to them: the lights and ornaments adorning winter trees aren't merely decorative, but essential illumination against the long darkness, remaining lit well into February. Spring's delicate blossoms, summer's abundant green, and autumn's warm transformation pass in compressed succession before yielding again to winter's extended reign.
Traditional sketching establishes the composition's foundation and flow, while iterative generative fill builds atmospheric depth and organic detail, creating a painterly aesthetic that balances digital precision with expressive spontaneity.
